Gold leaf electroscope

This rectangular metal electroscope, covered from two sides by transparent glass plates to allow visibility, eliminates deflections caused by charges residing on the glass walls and prevents air currents from affecting the deflection of the leaves, therefore allowing leaves to react only to charges which are intentionally brought near or put on them. A plated metal rod with the leaf support plate is suspended from the top through a polyethylene-insulated lid with finger flap to facilitate removal.
